Description

This technique was born and developed in Mesopotamia in the 9th century and with the Islamic conquest it then spread throughout North Africa and Spain and then reached Italy where, in 1500, under the push that the Renaissance gave to all the arts, some Italian ceramists of the time, including Mastrogiorgio da Gubbio, created true masterpieces of luster ceramic art. After the last splendors of the seventeenth century, this process disappeared and only in 1873 Paolo Rubboli, in Gualdo Tadino, rediscovered the luster technique based on the information that Cipriano Piccolpasso had collected in his book Li Tre Libri dell’Arte del Vasaio in 1558.

Today Maurizio Tittarelli Rubboli, Paolo’s great-grandson, continues the family tradition and has created this highly prized collection of luster majolica terracotta specifically for our company, combining tradition with contemporaneity.
